Dreaming and expecting what you will be in the next ten years may sound nuts now that we are still in our adolescent years. Some may say, "Enjoy your childhood; you will never be young again when you turn old and wrinkled", or "Don't make haste on other things; just enjoy and have fun at the moment", but we cannot deny the fact that the future can already be foretold and foreshadowed based on our interests, goals, and principles in life.
After a decade, I would see myself as a registered nurse. I imagine myself walking on the corridors and hallways of the hospital or medical center I am working at, wearing my scrubs with a matching stethoscope on my shoulders and a clipboard and pen on my right hand. I have a nameplate on my uniform that says, "David Aeron Y. Arellano, RN", taking pride in the service and dignity my profession holds. I am serving my patients with the best of my abilities and also helping them with the warmest and most caring hands and hearts possible. It will be exhausting, of course, but it will surely be a memorable experience, helping and serving the Filipino people with the kind of healthcare service they all deserve.
Seeing the other side of the hill, I think that I will be successful after a decade. I will be successful in the sense that I have finally stepped out of my comfort zone, done the things I was afraid to do before, bought the things I was unable to do because of financial instabilities, and accomplished my bucket list by visiting countries abroad, such as the Vatican City, Spain, and Italy. Also in the sense that I have graduated high school and college with flying colors, fulfilling the dreams of the younger version of me and finally providing for myself and my family as well.
Furthermore, I think that after a decade has passed, I will become the best version of myself that ever existed. Many impediments and curveballs will try to drag me down, thinking that they might mash and shatter my goals and dreams, but they will never taste the sweet taste of victory. Those ten years will bring knowledge and wisdom to my mind, improve my perspective on life, and help me appreciate the beauty of love and family more. I also think that with the influence and power I hold, I would be able to do my part by using my voice to make a difference in the world, as I should.
Lastly, I believe I will be ready. Ready to conquer everything against all odds, ready for any setback that tries to bring my guard down, and ready for any changes that are set to turn the tables around. With all of the lessons and wisdom I was able to acquire over the years from the wars that I have fought, I think I am ready for everything, may it be filled with glee or gloom.
Everything might be uncertain at present, but one thing's for sure: My mother raised a winner and a fighter, not a quitter. Things might be blurry now, but they will be clear once the right time comes, like clouds that are set aside, giving way to a sunny and shiny day. I will move mountains and surpass boundaries, if I should, to achieve my goals and endeavors in life. I know that it is almost insane to think that we can easily foreshadow our future through our career plans, but if we match our words with actions, I think we can possibly do so against all odds.
Even when a decade passes, don't let that ardent passion in our hearts extinguish, and yet, let us use it to continuously ablaze our dreams and our future until we can pass on the fire to others too.
All the lessons I will be able to learn and acquire, I will treat as bricks and use them to form a wall, fortifying it with my faith, trust, and perseverance, until I can build a fortress, perhaps even an empire of victory.
No matter what happens, I will get that RN. I will make my younger self proud. And I will make sure that I am of service to everyone in need through my profession.
To the Filipino people, by the Filipino people, for the Filipino people.
May the odds ever be in our favor.
